| Customer Service vs. Technical Support | | | Posted by qzl on Monday June 22, 2009 17:51:58
These two terms may seem interchangeable but there are major differences.
The philosophy of "the customer is always right" refers to customer service but not technical support where the opposite is generally true.
Trying to manage both things can be a nightmare when you have to resolve the ambiguity of "the customer is always right" vs. "the customer is a fucking retard" as is the case with a lot of technical support questions and responses.
An example of a technical support response to a problem: User: I can't print. Support: Is the printer turned on, plugged in, and connected to the computer? User: Yeah. Support: Are there any orange or red lights on the printer? User: There aren't any lights. Power's out. Support: *click*
I can't really respond with a customer service point of view. I'd probably end up yelling at the person and handing in a resignation letter.

This site will be moving to a new host in the near future.
It's way too slow now. Thanks to Verizon's upload compression you'll be lucky to get 10K/s downloads.
... and in other news, Nestle is recalling raw cookie dough because apparently people are too fucking stupid to cook it.

... to be an American.
This article (linked in title) isn't the only one that I've seen recently documenting how our government treats people.
ICE was supposed to be a solution to various problems inside government agencies.
| Now that George W. Bush is about to leave office... | | | Posted by qzl on Tuesday November 11, 2008 21:47:50
... we may finally have an idea of what his legacy is.
There was a post on the Onion about how a black man just got the shittiest job in the world.
It's true. The presidency at this time is a pretty miserable job. Look at how the nation regards George Bush now as he has had to make so many unpopular choices.
Probably the worst choice of all was war in Iraq but we realize it had to be done at some point even if Saddam Hussein wasn't a critical threat to us as was claimed.
People rallied when he said in 2001 "they will all hear from us soon".
Now he leaves office with the lowest approval rating ever recorded.
Was it all really his fault? I tend to disagree.

Newsflash to both presidential candidates: You both suck.
We're voting for the "lesser of two evils" again.
| Hi | | | Posted by qzl on Wednesday October 8, 2008 15:23:19
I've been updating this site fairly regularly lately due to the fact I have quite a bit of down time at work as the busy season is all but over.
I am going to be repurposing this site along with a probable redesign.
Along with the redesign will be a functional CMS where people actually CAN log in and post comments.
I'm looking to do something like gut phpBB and use that as my CMS and then add in the other modules (in perl, not php - this crap is all written in perl).
I will also be hosting this on a real webserver and not just a suped up linux box at home that gets hammered every couple of hours by some dumbshits in China with a SSH flood script.
The general idea I have is to create a site that's a mixture of sites such as FARK (where user submissions get posted after an approval process) and Drudge Report (generally a news site put together by Matt Drudge, himself).
This site (on this system) will be discontinued and all of my efforts will go into the news aggregate site, my musical project (Dude in the sky), and 1detect (antivirus/malware and system repair tool).
For now, I'll probably just post news tidbits on here using this now-primitive posting system.
